Back-2-School

The Annual Back-To-School Giveaway is a yearly event at the end of the summer break to prepare kids for the start of the new academic year. The CDC has partnered with various community groups for five years to provide backpacks, school supplies, learn materials, haircuts, and hairstyles for 500+ kids annually. With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have pivoted to an outside venue and have continued serving the community.
In our most recent giveaway, we served nearly 1,000 children from Pre-K through High School.

Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway

With local partners, including Smithfield Foods and Target, the GET Empowered CDC has provided meal packages for local families during the holiday season. In our most recent year, over 400 families were provided with a turkey, ham, or chicken and an assortment of canned and dry foods.

Christmas Giveaway

The largest of the CDC’s events occurs at the beginning of December. In previous years, we have hosted this within a middle school auditorium with plans to move to a large facility. Were by leaps and bounds. We moved this event outside for the past two years to accommodate social distancing. This event has grown to serve more than 1000 children of all ages.
